positioned on the southern coastline of kythnos, idole looks across a quiet bay of exceptionally clear water, with uninterrupted sea views extending towards the neighbouring cycladic islands beyond. the house sits low within the landscape, following the contours of the hillside through whitewashed terraces, dry stone walls and planted pathways that descend gradually towards the shoreline below. the setting feels distinctly private and sheltered, with the sea remaining constantly present both visually and acoustically throughout the property.
the architecture draws directly from the restrained simplicity of traditional cycladic houses while incorporating a more contemporary openness towards light and landscape. white plaster surfaces, pale stone paving and soft timber detailing create interiors that feel calm and understated, allowing the colours of the sea and sky to remain dominant. the principal living and dining spaces are arranged as a single open-plan area, where large openings frame the bay and allow the sea breeze to move naturally through the house during the summer months.
