Dubrovnik's Stradun Avenue
Dubrovnik, a medieval city that has been around for more than 700 years, was voted the most beautiful city by National Geographic in 2017. Stradun Avenue is the busiest street in town. Dubrovnik used to consist of islands. The Stradun Avenue was originally a water channel separating two areas. It was paved in 1468, and became a 300 metres street that traverses the old town. Dividing the city into North and South District, the Stradun Avenue is Dubrovnik’s most elite shopping district. In 1667, a devastating earthquake destroyed many luxurious forts and buildings, creating a difficult time for the Republic of Dubrovnik as it struggled to reconstruct the city. It combined advanced architectural and civil engineering technology to reconstruct today's Baroque architecture. The broad marble avenue, bright and busy, welcomes tourists from all over the world. |

Lokrum Island
Located on the opposite side of Dubrovnik, famous for having many wild peacocks, the island is only ten minutes away by ferry from the old town. It is a very popular religious tourism destination, and is listed as a forest reserve by UNESCO. You can reach the highest point of the island with a relaxing hike, where you can see a panoramic view of the old town and nearby islands. Along the way, you can also walk past 12th-century churches, 15th-century monasteries, and 19th-century Habsburg summer palaces.
