Pepsi-Cola Sign
If you look across the East River from Manhattan, you cannot miss the red cursive Pepsi-Cola sign in Long Island City that has resided there since 1936. The Pepsi bottling plant closed down in 1999 near the northern side of Gantry Plaza State Park, however the sign has remained an iconic element of the Queens waterfront. The sign was lowered from its initial site to its prominent position in the park in 2009. The sign was classified and designated as a New York CIty landmark in August 2016. |
